2013 NFL Scouting Combine - Winners & Losers

QBs

UP: Matt Scott tested very well, finishing among the best at his position at all the drills he participated in. He's a late-round prospect that should hear his named called on Day 3.

UP: Geno Smith solidified his status as 2013's best QB prospect. Not only did he test well by showing speed and explosion, his throws were on point and put his nice deep ball on display.

DOWN: Collin Klein is not likely to have a career as a quarterback. His arm is too inconsistent and a long delivery would require a lot of tweaking.

RBs

UP: Knile Davis tested off the charts with a 4.37 40 and 31 reps in the bench press. His combination of size and speed could be a difference maker in a class that currently lacks a standout favorite.

UP: The best all-around workout warrior had to be Christine Michael. He posted the top three-cone, vertical and 20-yard shuttle.

DOWN: Jawan Jamison may have hurt his draft value after posting poor test results. He was projected as a late-second, early-third round prospect, but that may not be the case as teams will need to re-examine his tape.

WRs

UP: Justin Hunter put his athleticism on display with a great 40 (4.44) and that's impressive for a guy listed at 6'4". As a former track athlete, his abilities were never really in question though.

UP: Running a 4.34 40 yard dash will certainly help Tavon Austin. He was already considered a first round option and his combine performance likely locked that in.

DOWN: No one expected DeAndre Hopkins to run a great 40, but his 4.57 wasn't impressive. His average testing numbers across the board are a concern which could push him towards the bottom of the second round.

TEs

UP: Vance McDonald tested in the Top 5 in bench press, broad jump, three-cone and the 60-yard shuttle. He likely separated himself from the pack in a logjam at his position's second-tier.

UP: Finishing no worse than fifth in any of the workouts will help Tyler Eifert's case as a potential first round pick. He dominated the combine and really set himself apart.

DOWN: Zach Ertz didn't have a bad combine, but he couldn't keep up with Eifert. It's now unlikely that many teams will have Ertz ranked near Eifert on their draft boards.

OLs

UP: Lane Johnson displayed tremendous athleticism with a 4.72 40 and great test numbers across the board. He was looking like a late-first rounder, but might sneak into the top half of the first after a great combine.

UP: Terron Armstead ran the fastest 40-yard dash ever for an offensive lineman (4.71). So fast in fact, there are reports circulating that some teams are looking at him as a tight end.

DOWN: After impressing in recent weeks in evaluation, Menelik Watson didn't do much at the combine to help himself out. For a raw prospect, he does not have much athleticism to fall back on.

DEs

UP: Dion Jordan ran a 4.6 40 and looked like the best pure pass-rusher at the combine. His blend of speed, matched with his frame will likely have him picked in the Top 10.

UP: Ziggy Ansah's incredibly high ceiling was on full display. His 4.26 20-yard shuttle was tops among all defensive linemen.

DOWN: Damontre Moore only had 12 reps in the bench press, which confirms his lack of upper body strength seen in game film. He had a great 2012, but is likely out of consideration in the top half of the first round.

DTs

UP: Margus Hunt will likely play both inside and outside, given his hulking frame and power. He logged 38 bench press reps and impressive times in the three-cone (7.07) and 40-yard dash (4.60).

UP: Brandon Williams has really come on strong during evaluations. The Division II prospect also benched 38 reps and should provide a run-stuffing presence to a defense's interior.

DOWN: One of the big stories to come out of the combine was Star Lotulelei's heart issues. Tests will come, but this news certainly doesn't bode well for him in the short-term until more details are revealed.

LBs

UP: Zaviar Gooden tested very well. He ran a blistering 4.47 40, which is almost unheard of for linebackers and finished among the Top 5 in almost every other workout.

UP: Cornelius Washington has great height and a big frame, yet still managed to run a 4.55 40, all while benching 36 reps. He still has a long way to go if he wants to hear his name called in the first few rounds though.

DOWN: It'd be easy to pick on Manti Te'o, but Kevin Minter also ran a below-average 40. The LSU linebacker didn't perform too well in the vertical or broad jump also, at least for a potential second rounder.

CBs

UP: Robert Alford finished in Top 5 at his position in the 40, bench press, vertical and broad jump. Speed and explosion are important to corners who need to react quickly to make plays in the secondary.

UP: Most of the concerns surrounding Jamar Taylor focused on his inconsistent technique and so-so speed. A great 40-time (4.39) will help him and let's not forget that technique can be coached up.

DOWN: Johnthan Banks was supposed to be the second-best corner in this draft, but that's not looking like the case anymore. A 4.61 40 hurts and his lack of physicality is troubling.

Ss

UP: A mid-round prospect, Shamarko Thomas posted the best 40 time of all safeties. His 4.42 and great results in the bench press, broad jump and vertical jump could elevate him into the second or early third.

UP: Both safeties from N.C. State David Amerson and Earl Wolff had great combines. In particular, Amerson's draft value is rebounding after sliding down for most of the 2012 season.

DOWN: At just 5'11" and 213 pounds, a lot more was expected of Tony Jefferson. A disappointing 4.75 40 time could take him from the fourth to the later rounds.
