Golf Rankings for Wells Fargo Championship
Grayson Murray - World Ranking: #146
Murray is a Carolina native, and a bomber who should love this track. He got his first look last season, where he finished 22nd in the PGA Championship. It's been a boom-or-bust season for Murray, but there's been more boom of late. His last seven starts read: 8th-MC-MC-14th-14th-MC-16th. For someone with his skill set and birdie-making upside, there's no way I can pass on this price tag.
Francesco Molinari - World Ranking: #18
There's nothing flashy about Molinari, but he continues to make cuts each and every week. He's made five in a row, and comes back to Quail Hollow where he's had great success. After finishing 17th here in 2016, he tied for 2nd at the PGA Championship a year ago. He's one of the best bal-strikers on Tour, and has really picked up his off-the-tee game this season. Molinari's biggest weakness is the putter.
Kevin Streelman - World Ranking: #139
If you're looking for a deep darkhorse to win this week, look no further than Kevin Streelman. He's a proven winner on Tour, and has shown some of the best and most consistent form recently. He's made six of his past seven cuts, with half of those finishes in the top-10 (including the past two events). Streelman has played well at Quail Hollow, most recently finishing 6th, 14th, and 9th in 2013-15. He ranks eighth in my statistical model this week.
Byeong Hun An - World Ranking: #58
An has slowly been trending back into form over the past couple months. He's made four of his past five cuts on Tour, including two top-10 finishes. An made the cut and finished 28th here at last year's PGA Championship, so he can clearly manage the course. He's long off-the-tee, a tremendous ball-striker, but potentially the worst putter in the field. Without putting, he'd easily be inside the top-10 in my statistical model.
Lucas Glover - World Ranking: #100
When at Quail Hollow, pencil Glover into your lineups. The South Carolina native loves playing in this part of the country, and no course suits his game better than this one. In the last ten years here, he's posted four top-8 finishes including a win in 2010. Glover is one of the best drivers of the golf ball on Tour, and has always been an elite iron player. His putter tends to be ice cold most weeks, but hopefully these familiar greens are enough to keep him in contention.
Sean O'Hair - World Ranking: #72
Things have been trending up for Sean O'Hair, who is coming off a runner-up finish at the Valero Texas Open. He comes back to Quail Hollow where he won in 2009, and has posted three straight top-35 finishes. O'Hair has been great both off-the-tee and with his iron play, so he just needs to tighten up his short game in order to contend on this tough track.
