Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew won't be overworked
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew
had 24 carries Sunday versus the Tennessee Titans, and he wasn't happy about it. He wanted more, but the team decided to let Deji Karim
get most of the work in the fourth quarter. You should probably expect more of the same going forward, according to head coach Jack Del Rio.
"We got up early in the second half and he already had 21 carries," Del Rio said of Jones-Drew. "I'm not wild about the prospect of him taking it 35 times in the opener. So that was my call. We had talked about a play-count for him. ... That's going to happen as we monitor and try to keep him to a certain number of reps as we go throughout this season. That can happen from time-to-time."
Fantasy Analysis:
After spending much of the offseason fretting about his surgically repaired knee, I must admit that Maurice Jones-Drew looked great Sunday against the Titans. It was a little odd that he didn't have a reception, but he didn't seem to be affected at all. The Jaguars will continue to give him extended rests during games as to keep him strong through 16 games. It may not make MJD happy, but as long as he's getting 24 touches per game, he should be just fine for fantasy owners. And Karim is a must-have for MJD's owners.
