Sunday morning inactives, week 1: Texans' Arian Foster will not play, etc.
Hello, everybody! Are you ready?! Week 1 began Thursday, but it really starts today. Since it is the the first week, there aren't a whole lot of notable fantasy players on the injury report this week, but that doesn't mean it's completely devoid of big names. And I have to start with Texans running back Arian Foster
. He is OUT for today's game against the Colts because of his hamstring injury. Derrick Ward will start in his place, but expect to see a lot of Ben Tate.
In other corners, Eagles wide receiver Steve Smith
is active. It's the culmination of a relatively quick for Smith from major knee surgery last December. However, he's the Eagles' third wideout at best today against the Rams. He's not a good fantasy start.
Vince Young is inactive for the Eagles because of a hamstring injury. Mike Kafka will be their No. 2 quarterback.
Peyton Manning is out, obviously, but wide receiver Austin Collie
is active. He's got a good matchup against the Texans. Teammates Anthony Gonzalez and Blair White are inactive.
Matt Cassel is active for the Kansas City Chiefs despite a rib injury. He will start against the Bills.
Titans running back Javon Ringer is inactive. That means Jamie Harper will back up Chris Johnson today against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He should get a few carries today.
Some other players were ruled out prior to Sunday, including Raiders tight end Kevin Boss and Bears running back Marion Barber.
Fantasy Analysis:
Foster is the big news, albeit it pretty expected. The Colts had a weak run defense last year, so the Texans should still be able to run the ball effectively. I think everyone likes Tate more than Ward today, but I can't recommend either of those guys as more than a low-end RB2 or flex because I'm just not sure how much work one or the other will receive. Steve Slaton will also get a few touches.
I'm fine with starting Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark today with Kerry Collins at QB. Collie is a little more uncertain for me, especially at less than 100 percent. I think he's a WR3 at best.
Cassel has a decent matchup, but everyone knows the Bills' big defensive weakness is on the ground. I expect to see a lot of Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones in this game, limiting Cassel's opportunities. Cassel is an OK QB2
