Rams cut WR Donnie Avery, place Mark Clayton on Reserve/PUP list

The Rams had to eliminate some their excess at wide receiver, and they were able to accomplish that Saturday. St. Louis got rid of wide receivers Donnie Avery and Marty Gilyard. Gilyard was just a special teams player, but Avery was the Rams' leading receiver in 2009 as a rookie. Then a knee injury took away some of his precious speed and all of his 2010 season. He has struggled to regain that explosive ability in 2011.
The Rams also placed wide receiver Mark Clayton @MarkClayton89 on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list as he continues his recovery after tearing a patellar tendon last year. He will miss the team's first six games and won't be eligible to play until week eight.

Fantasy Analysis:

The Rams now have Danny Amendola @DannyAmendola, Mike Sims-Walker @MikeSimsWalker and Brandon Gibson as their top three WRs. Danario Alexander @D_Alexander84 is a big target, but he's dealt with a ton of knee injuries and isn't healthy right now either. Rookies Austin Pettis and Greg Salas also made the final roster along with undrafted rookie Dominique Curry. He's been on the team's practice squad since last year.
While none of these guys are outstanding options -- although I am a fan of Amendola -- they should be enough for Sam Bradford to make a big statistical jump from his rookie year. With Josh McDaniels working with him, I am infatuated with Bradford as a QB2.
