49ers rookie RB Kendall Hunter second on depth chart
San Francisco 49ers running back Kendall Hunter
is likely the team's No. 2 running back behind Frank Gore. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said, "[Hunter is] definitely playing well enough to be the No. 2 back." For what it's worth, Hunter led all backs in the preseason with 231 rushing yards on 35 carries. In the 2010 NFL Draft, the 49ers selected running back Anthony Dixon
and he played in all 16 games last year. For now, Hunter appears to have overtaken Dixon's primary backup role.
Fantasy Analysis:
I've been high on Hunter for quite some time. He's a very compact runner and possesses good speed. Gore has had durability issues for the majority of his career and if ever called upon, they now have a quicker, more fluid runner to go along with Dixon's bruising style. San Francisco closed out the preseason with a win over the San Diego Chargers and looked good with their starters on the field. If Gore ever needs a week off, Hunter will have a prominent role and should be added off the waiver wire immediately.
