Panthers WR David Gettis placed on injured reserve

The Carolina Panthers placed wide receiver David Gettis on injured reserve, effectively ending his season. He tore his ACL during a practice a few weeks ago. Gettis was scheduled to be the Panthers No. 2 WR alongside Steve Smith @89SteveSmith but he won't see the field again until 2012. In the mean time, receivers Brandon LaFell @Blafell1 and Legedu Naanee @naanee11 will battle it out to take Gettis' place in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Analysis:

Gettis didn't do much last year but he did provide two big games for the Panthers. In those games he had 10 receptions for 217 yards and three scores. For the rest of the year, he only had 27 catches, 291 yards and no TDs. Heading into the year, expectations weren't high since Carolina is under a new regime and potentially led by rookie QB Cam Newton @CameronNewton. This setback is a big blow to his career as he'll have to earn his spot back in next year's training camp. LaFell has some raw talent and Naanee played well when healthy for San Diego so it should be a good position battle.
