David Garrard will remain Jaguars' starting QB
Despite a challenge from rookie Blaine Gabbert
, the Jacksonville Jaguars will head into the regular season with David Garrard
as their starting quarterback for the fifth consecutive season. Head coach Jack Del Rio said Garrard is his starter Tuesday.
The Jaguars haven't had a very impressive in August, getting blown out by the Patriots and looking inept versus the Falcons. But Del Rio is looking forward to his team becoming more efficient with all of its familiar aspects in the final two weeks of the preseason.
"We have the same system, we have the same quarterback, we have the same players," Del Rio told The Florida Times-Union. "We should expect to play at a higher level. I expect us to play at a higher level and now would be a good time."
Fantasy Analysis:
Even though Garrard was bothered by a back injury early in camp, this is something that was expected all along. Gabbert is the future, but the future is not now. Garrard as the starter is good news for Mike Thomas
and Marcedes Lewis
, even though it obviously doesn't make them elite options. Garrard, as seemingly always, will probably have another underrated season -- he had 28 total TDs last year -- but he's best used as a QB2 in fantasy.
