Dolphins name Reggie Bush starting RB
Uh-oh ... bad news for you Larry Johnson fans. He's not going to be the Miami Dolphins' starting running back! What a shock!
Instead, it will be Reggie Bush
getting the first snaps when the Dolphins begin their regular season. Head coach Tony Sparano made the news official Tuesday.
"This is something three weeks into training camp here or whatever it is, four weeks into training camp and we're making a decision ... Reggie Bush is going to be the first runner out the gate here," Sparano told The Miami Herald. "I mean he's going to be the starting running back."
Fantasy Analysis:
Bush has certainly looked better than rookie Daniel Thomas during the preseason. He looked extremely fresh during the team's last preseason game versus Carolina. Meanwhile, all I can remember from that game about Thomas is that he got stuffed a couple of times at the goal line.
So lower Thomas and raise Bush in your draft ranks. But a word of warning: Bush has surpassed 20 touches in a game just 11 times in his five-year career, and he hasn't gotten more than 16 touches in any game since 2008. Sparano has to be aware of Bush's injury history and that by just naming him the starter shouldn't mean he has to automatically get a boatload of carries. If you are going to draft Bush, you still shouldn't expect more than 15 touches per week. If the Dolphins go beyond that, they are asking for trouble.
Thomas will still play a major part in Miami's running game, but it looks like now that he and Bush will be in a pretty even timeshare, with the edge going to Reggie. Both players are flex or RB3 players. If Bush stays healthy, he has the ability to finish the season within the top 20 at his position, but he has missed at least two games in each of the past four years.
