Gibbs resigns as coach, president of Redskins
Gibbs had some trying times in his second stint with the team, but he ended on a positive note with a trip to the playoffs for the second time in three years. The speculation on his replacement is defensive coordinator Gregg Williams (whose defense was ranked among the best in the NFL this season) and former Steelers coach Bill Cowher. Staying with Williams would give the normally volatile franchise stability and he appears to have the players' vote, though many on the current Redskins coaching staff are part of the original Gibbs regime. But Redskins owner Dan Snyder has shown the desire to make a big splash and Cowher would fit that bill, though the current CBS analyst has previously stated he will stay away from coaching for another full season.
