Titans owner says Chris Johnson's holdout could extend into regular season
Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson
wants to be the highest-paid player in all of football, not just among those who play his position. Titans owner Bud Adams said he doesn't want to negotiate on those terms.
"I'm not gonna make any offer with the way he's acting," Adams said of Johnson on Saturday.
Johnson, 25, has two years left on his current contract and is scheduled to make just $800,000 this season. He has stayed away from Titans training camp since it opened. The Titans said recently they would be wiling to make him the highest-paid running back in the league, but Johnson wants more than that. Both sides are far apart right now, and Adams is conscious to the fact that Johnson's holdout may go into the regular season.
"That could be, but that's his decision," Adams said about the possibility of Johnson holding out into September. "He's got to make that. I'm not going to interfere. If he doesn't want to come in and play, then he doesn't want to come in and play."
Fantasy Analysis:
Much like Peyton Manning's neck injury and Frank Gore's own contract dispute, I'm not going to get worried about this right now. We still have three weeks until the start of the season. But if this lingers for another 7-10 days, it'll be time to think about lowering Johnson's draft position. Javon Ringer
is Johnson's backup and should be on your radar.
