Chiefs QB Matt Cassel having difficulty with offense in camp

There's bound to be some sort of hangover in NFL training camps due to the lockout. Teams have had less time to gel and play together. New arrivals, thanks to the delayed free agency period, are forced to become accustomed to their teammates quicker than usual. For example -- and it's definitely not the only case out there -- It all seems to have affected Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel.
According to the Kansas City Star, Cassel has had his ups and downs in training camp and hasn't really established a consistent connection yet with brand-new weapon Steve Breaston @SBreaston15. However, slowly but surely, the Chiefs are learning.
"We didn't have those (offseason practices) and minicamps to kind of experiment, so we're experimenting with different personnel groups, different formations," Cassel said. "We're learning a lot about our team and who we are. I think we're moving in the right direction."

Fantasy Analysis:

This is the kind of thing that I think we'll notice league-wide early in the season. The first couple of weeks of any season usually feature offenses still working out the kinks. But in this year, more so than any in recent past, offenses will really need some extra time to hit their stride. Unfortunately for real-life and fantasy football, I think that time will be known as September. So don't make too many knee-jerk reactions if your studs get off to a slow start; it could just be a side effect from the abbreviated true offseason.
As far as Cassel goes, he's got some nice weapons with which to work -- Breaston, Dwayne Bowe @DwayneBowe82, Tony Moeaki @TonyMoeaki81, Jamaal Charles. But the Chiefs are a ball-control, run-first offense, which limits Cassel's upside. I don't think he'll throw as many as 27 touchdowns again, but his yards aren't going to jump up either. He's safe as a QB2.
