Seahawks looking to get RB Leon Washington more carries
Leon Washington
was a dangerous change-of-pace running back for the New York Jets during the first four seasons of his NFL career. But a nasty broken leg in 2009 probably robbed him of some elusiveness and with the Seahawks last season, Washington carried the ball just 27 times, doing most of his damage as a kick returner.
But head coach Pete Carroll is trying to get Washington more involved in the offense. Washington is healthy, and Carroll plans to give him a lot of touches during the team's preseason game versus Minnesota on Saturday.
"We love what he does," Carroll said of Washington, "but think he just needs reps in this zone scheme that we're running and so he can show us where he's special and unique in our stuff. It's just going to be a matter of time."
Fantasy Analysis:
However, more than Lynch and Washington, the Seahawks also have to get Justin Forsett
involved. There's not going to be enough carries in this backfield to support three running backs, and Washington is probably going to be the No. 3. He'll see an increase in his offensive playing time, but it probably won't mean much for fantasy purposes.
Forsett is a late-round fantasy pick. Lynch is going to get the majority of the carries, and he's probably best suited as a RB3 or flex play in your 12-team league.
