Falcons say offense will take to the air more often this season
There's no doubt that the Atlanta Falcons have enough passing weapons to beat just about any NFL defense. Matt Ryan
, Roddy White
, Tony Gonzalez, Julio Jones
, Harry Douglas
-- that's quite a special group. According to White, the team plans to use that group more often in 2011, taking advantage of an explosive aerial attack.
"The play-calling is going to be aggressive," White said. "We're going to try and get the ball down the field and get some explosive plays. We're going to try to look for a lot of mismatches. Wherever those mismatches are, that's where we're going.
"Teams can't guard all of us. We just have to capitalize on those mismatches and go after people."
Fantasy Analysis:
With those options, Ryan is one of my favorite value QBs in drafts this year. He's currently the 11th quarterback off the board at mockdraftcentral.com. That is a steal.
White is still a top fantasy receiver; Jones may be the best rookie WR this season; Douglas is a speedy sleeper worth stashing on your bench. But let's not make it seem like the Falcons are going to suddenly abandon Michael Turner. I think we've seen the best of his career, but he's still going to get at least 300 carries and a bunch of touchdowns. My worries with Turner deal more with injury probability than the passing tendencies of the Falcons' offense.
