Steelers WR Mike Wallace aiming for 2,000 yards
Be on alert, Jerry Rice; Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace
is going for one of your records this season.
"I plan to get 2,000 yards," Wallace told the Beaver County Times. ... "I figure that if I average 20 yards a catch this year and catch 100 balls, that will be 2,000 yards."
Of course, Rice holds the mark for most receiving yards in a single season -- 1,848 in 1995.
Fantasy Analysis:
These kind of stories come along every preseason. They are frivolous, but fun. But it's usually the running backs who are saying they are going for 2,000.
Wallace has averaged 21 yards per catch last season, so he's got that working for him. But he caught only 60 passes. To think he can keep up that per-catch pace while adding 35-40 receptions this year is naive. Wallace is still a very stellar fantasy receiver, someone who is a borderline WR1. I guess 1,500 yards is within reach, but Rice's record will be left untouched.
