49ers will have competition for starting QB job

Maybe Alex Smith is the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback when the 2011 season begins. Maybe his job isn't in that much immediate jeopardy. But as of right now, Smith's hold on the job seems a little looser than we've been led to believe during the offseason.
When head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about the quarterback position on Saturday, he said no one has been locked into a spot on the depth chart.
''We're evaluating it daily and, really, it's a mindset of letting the guys compete for it,'' Harbaugh said during a conference call. "There hasn't been an opportunity so far to be a clear-cut, definitive winner in the quarterback competition. We just forge ahead.''
Harbaugh said that there's a possibility the team could still add a veteran quarterback to the mix of Smith and rookie Colin Kaepernick @Kaepernick7.

Fantasy Analysis:

Neither Smith nor Kaepernick were impressive in any right against the Saints on Friday. They were very inaccurate, but the offensive line didn't give them much of a chance either. Smith is still expected to start come week one, but it seems like only a matter of time before Kaepernick is ready to take the reins at some point this season. Both of them aren't worth drafting in fantasy leagues.
