Eagles take chance on former Giants WR Steve Smith
The Philadelphia Eagles continue their free agency foray by signing former New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith
to a one-year, $4 million contract with $2 million guaranteed. "He's a Pro Bowl quality receiver that we will work into our offense as soon as he is ready to go," said head coach Andy Reid. Smith is still recovering from microfracture surgery.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Giants thought Smith would be out until at least mid-season while the Eagles appear to be more optimistic. Philly officially went all-in on this upcoming 2011 season when they made their play for cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and they've added a number of other free agents this year. The Eagles claim they aren't, but there are injury concerns regarding WR Jeremy Maclin
as well. This team has a lot going on but you can't blame them if they feel Smith can play this year. They now have three high-quality receivers in an already dynamic offense.
