Ryan Grant is Packers' first-team RB

While many expect the Green Bay Packers to implement a timeshare in their backfield, it's worth noting that Ryan Grant @RyanGrant25 has been practicing with the first-team offense since the start of training camp. Backfield mate James Starks @James44Starks? He's been running solely with the second team. But Starks knows those roles can change quickly because head coach Mike McCarthy likes to use the running back who is on a roll. "We have a lot of backs," Starks told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "So if somebody's not doing what they're supposed to, I'm sure [McCarthy] will be able to count on any one of us. All of us are like brothers. We stick up for each other. If one's slacking, we try to pick that person up."

Fantasy Analysis:

It's still too early to anoint Grant the starter. Witnesses to Packers practices have said he looks good after almost a full year off because of a season-ending ankle injury in September. But I'm fairly comfortable with saying that Grant isn't going to be a workhorse back of any sort for the Packers. I think he's a nice flex option while Starks is a reserve RB right now. Starks has added some bulk to his frame, so maybe he'll be a short-yardage option. But that's all speculation, and let's not overlook the fact that we're still about five weeks away from the beginning of the regular season. Plenty of things can happen between now and then.
