WR Malcom Floyd re-signs with Chargers for 2 years

We've been talking a lot about how the San Diego Chargers don't have much behind Vincent Jackson @VincentTJackson among their wide receivers. But that group got a big boost Friday when wideout Malcom Floyd chose to stay on a two-year contract. The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee was the first to break the news on Twitter. Floyd caught 37 passes for 717 yards and six touchdowns in just 11 games last season. He will turn 30 years old on Sept. 8.

Fantasy Analysis:

Floyd began the 2010 season so strong with 513 yards and three scores in the first six games. But like other Chargers wide receivers, injuries got to him, specifically his hamstrings. When he was on the field, Floyd was a steady option for quarterback Philip Rivers. This re-signing certainly helps out his value, although Rivers has shown that he can produce with a nameless bunch of receivers. Floyd is the Chargers' third-best receiving option right now past Jackson and tight end Antonio Gates. He did most of his best work while Jackson was holding out, so you shouldn't expect him to be as productive this year. However, San Diego hasn't hinted at throwing the ball less in 2011, so Floyd should get plenty of opportunities. And his 6-foot-5 frame remains quite an attractive target in the red zone. I think he's a solid WR3 in fantasy.
