Jets ready to give Shonn Greene 'bell cow' role

The New York Jets like to run the football a lot. And this season, the Jets want Shonn Greene to be their ground-game leader. Last season, Greene split carries with LaDainian Tomlinson, earning the minority of the touches among the duo. But according to head coach Rex Ryan, their roles will change in 2011 with Greene clearly becoming what Ryan calls his "bell cow." "I don't think there's any doubt [Greene] is ready," Ryan said Thursday. "And the other thing is I want to keep LT fresh for third-down responsibility and then hammer teams with Shonn. You know me, I love to fire a fresh back at you. But to start with, I'm thinking the plan is you're going to get a heavy dose of Shonn Greene."

Fantasy Analysis:

Greene got 185 carries last season. There's been plenty of speculation that he'll get 300 or more this season. He's also been working on becoming a bigger factor in the passing game. If both of those things happen and Greene stays healthy, he can be a top-12 RB. As the 21st running back drafted on average right now, Greene is undervalued. But the major sticking point is, how much work at the goal line will Greene have to give away to Tomlinson, one of the league's greatest scorers?
