Redskins RB Ryan Torain undergoes hand surgery
If you have followed the career of Washington Redskins running back Ryan Torain
, you know he's prone to injury. He played in only two games during his rookie season of 2008 before tearing an ACL. He missed all of 2009 because of a shattered elbow. He missed four games last year due to a strained hamstring.
His latest visit with team doctors won't shelve him for the long term, but it is a reminder of what you get with Torain. He underwent surgery on Thursday for a broken hand. Torain had screws inserted into his left hand, which he broke during Wednesday's morning practice. He is expected to miss 7-10 days.
With Torain out, Tim Hightower
and rookie Roy Helu
took the bulk of the first-team carries during Thursday evening's practice.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Washington Post also states that Keiland Williams
, rookie Evan Royster and James Davis
are expected to compete for the starting RB job while Torain is on the mend. But it should basically come down to Torain, Hightower and Helu. Right now, I'm not sure who has an edge. Helu is a rookie who's trying to get his land legs in the NFL. Torain is already injured and Hightower is seen as more of a third-down back. I guess Hightower would be my choice if I was forced, but I want nothing to do with the Redskins' backfield. You can risk it if you feel lucky.
