Rams get RB Cadillac Williams to play backup role
Jerious Norwood is not cut out to be a true NFL backup RB. But is he any worse than Cadillac Williams? The Rams will find out after signing the 29-year-old Williams to a one-year contract Wednesday.
After running for close to 1,200 yards in his rookie year of 2005, Williams' career has been ruined by injuries. Specifically, he has ruptured both of his patellar tendons. The former Buccaneer played in all 16 games last season, but ran for just 437 yards on 125 carries. He'll battle Norwood for the right to be St. Louis' second running back in command behind Steven Jackson
.
Fantasy Analysis:
Williams has many more carries to his name, so I figure he'll get the job. He'll probably see some third-down work as well with Norwood keeping his change-of-pace tag. But Caddy is not much bigger than Norwood and is almost as brittle. Cadillac hasn't averaged four yards per carry since 2005. I wish the Rams the best of luck, but they better pray with all their might that Jackson doesn't suffer a debilitating injury. Their secondary options are mediocre at best.
