Titans' Jared Cook to be more involved in offense
People have been raving about Jared Cook
's pro skills ever since he came out of South Carolina in 2009. The Tennessee Titans spent a third-round pick on him, and he started to bring noticeable returns on their investments during the second half of last season. Although Cook caught just three passes in the team's first nine games, he caught 26 passes in the final seven for 303 yards and a touchdown. He started to find his form as the season continued to progress, overtaking Bo Scaife as the team's most dangerous tight end. Cook was at his most productive in the final two games of the year -- 12 catches for 154 combined yards and a score. The Titans are looking to capitalize on Cook's skills even more in 2011.
[Cook] knows we are counting on him," Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer said. "My main concern is I'm going to ask him to do too many things because he is so athletic."
Palmer said that the Titans will use more two-tight-end formations as to cover Cook's deficiencies as a blocker and allow him to act more as a receiver.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Titans don't have much of a passing offense, but Cook could become it's second-most prolific weapon this season behind Kenny Britt. That is, if Britt can stop getting arrested. Cook is 6-foot-5 and about 250 pounds with fantastic athleticism, so he has all the physical makings of a star player. The possibility of rookie Jake Locker starting at QB may not be the best thing for Cook's fantasy value, but maybe Cook can turn into Locker's safety valve and most dependable option. Cook, as he has been since the end of last season, is a popular sleeper and a TE2 right now with unbelievable upside.
