Dolphins looking for complementary running back

The Miami Dolphins have been mentioned as possible landing spots for numerous free-agent running backs this offseason. DeAngelo Williams seems to be at the top of their list, but with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams @RickyWilliams both uncertain to return, they are really just searching for someone to compete with rookie Daniel Thomas. Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said as much to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel recently. "I'm interested in having another back, whether it fits the description of a scatback or not, we'll have to see what's available," Ireland said. "You can't corner yourself into just a scatback. We need another complementary back who complements Daniel [Thomas] and Lex [Hilliard]. We do have somewhat of a scatback in Kory Sheets that we haven't seen yet, so I'm still hoping he can develop."

Fantasy Analysis:

Sheets said earlier this week that he's a lot like Brown and Ricky Williams but has better speed. However, it's doubtful that he'll play a considerable part in this time share. Hilliard looks more like a fullback. Fact is the Dolphins just need this lockout to end so they can add a notable name to their backfield -- as well as find a QB to compete with Chad Henne. Thomas could very well be their starting RB this season, but they will also be looking for a potential starter who isn't on the current roster. Whether that is someone such as DeAngelo or Ahmad Bradshaw, we just don't know yet.
