Bengals' Cedric Benson is in the best shape of his life
Cedric Benson
doesn't really belong to anyone right now; he's a free agent. However, he is expected to re-sign with Cincinnati, and he showed up to the Bengals' voluntary workouts Wednesday because he said he needed to get in some football work. He's been doing his fair share of work off the field as well, doing whatever to stay in shape.
"I'm beyond football shape," Benson said. "I'm in 16 regular-game, four postseason-game kind of shape. I'm ready to roll…with this extended lockout, you've had all this extra time to work out. I haven't trained like this since I don't know when. It should be a lot of guys coming back in their best athletic (shape)."
Fantasy Analysis:
I guess it can go both ways; Either players are working out hard during the lockout because they want to take advantage of the extra free time or players are slacking off on the weights because no one is demanding them to stay in shape right now. I guess that's a difference in being self-motivated. Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said in the article that the Bengals will have to "get Cedric as many touches as possible without killing him." So that sounds promising. But Benson received a healthy 321 carries last season and frustrated his fantasy owners with very pedestrian totals (3.5 yards per carry, seven touchdowns). He'll be leaned upon heavily yet again in 2011, but Benson remains an RB2.
