Giants GM says Brandon Jacobs will remain in New York
Last week, New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs
expressed uncertainty over whether he'll be playing in New York this season. Giants general manager Jerry Reese tried to do his best on Monday to quell rumors that Jacobs is on his way out.
"I guess you have to consider the source when Brandon starts talking," Reese said during a radio interview. "You can't read a lot into what Brandon is saying sometimes. We do expect Brandon to be part of the football team this fall. He is under contract. Brandon does talk a lot and like I said, sometimes you got to tune some of that stuff out that he is talking about."
Jacobs is scheduled to make $4.65 million this season and is under contract through 2013. But with Ahmad Bradshaw
a free agent right now, Jacobs is unsure if the team can keep him at his current contract and re-sign his running mate. Reese doesn't seem to view that as a major concern.
Fantasy Analysis:
After a couple of slow weeks to start the 2010 season, Jacobs was stellar for the Giants as he averaged 5.6 yards per with his 147 carries. He also scored nine touchdowns. The Giants have said they want to get Jacobs more touches this season in hopes that he will keep bringing that level of production and save Bradshaw's surgically repaired feet a little. Still, Bradshaw is the No. 1 guy in this backfield. Bradshaw is a RB2 while I think Jacobs is more of a flex or top bench option.
