Packers' Donald Driver healthy, wants to play 2-3 more years
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver
told the Green Bay Press Gazette earlier this week that he has completely recovered from the high ankle sprain he suffered during Super Bowl XLV. Now he wants to set his sights on the 2011 season and beyond. Driver, 36, said he wants to play for "two or three more years and put a nice little stamp" on his career. That includes breaking some franchise records.
James Lofton holds the Packers record for career receiving yards with 9,656. Driver is just 40 yards behind that number and will probably pass it soon after this season begins. Driver has 53 career touchdown receptions, which are fourth-best in team history. If he plays through the 2012 or 2013 season, he could catch No. 2 Sterling Sharpe, who recorded 65 touchdowns. Don Hutson is No. 1 with 99 career TD catches as a Packer.
"Records are meant to be broken, and I want mine to never be broken," Driver said. "... When it's all said and done, maybe one day I can stand up here in Canton, Ohio, saying, 'I made it.'"
Fantasy Analysis:
In 2010, Driver posted his lowest totals in receptions and yards per game in about a decade. He'll break some records and be celebrated, but he probably won't contribute much from a fantasy standpoint in his final seasons. Receiving teammates Greg Jennings
, Jermichael Finley
and Jordy Nelson
should outproduce him in 2011.
