Jets expecting breakout season from Shonn Greene

New York Jets running back Shonn Greene was a top-20 pick in almost all fantasy drafts prior to the 2010 season. But the return on investment wasn't met as Greene split carries with LaDainian Tomlinson and posted some very average totals -- 766 rushing yards, 4.1 yards per carry, two touchdowns. Fantasy owners are still expecting a breakout from Greene, and the Jets are no different. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Friday he expects that breakout to come this season. "Shonn's ready to take that next step," Schottenheimer told the New York Daily News. "He's just gotten better year in and year out. His durability this year was outstanding. You just see the confidence in his eyes. His ability to pick up pass protection stuff has been terrific the last couple years. We expect a breakout season from him. He's a guy that's got just huge, huge, huge potential that we think is right there ready for him to grab." Schottenheimer also said that "without a doubt" Greene will be the Jets' primary ball carrier with an opportunity for 18-20 carries per week. The team's current stable of tailbacks includes Greene, Tomlinson, Joe McKnight @OfficialJoeJet, who was outstanding in the final regular-season game last year, and Bilal Powell, a rookie out of Louisville.

Fantasy Analysis:

Coach speak can only let you know so little. All you really need to notice is Greene's expected work total. We all figured he would see more action than Tomlinson this year, especially after how drastically the older back wore down late last season. But if the Jets stand firm on getting Greene 300 carries, he's going to be worth a late-first, early-second round pick. Again.
