Who wants to be the Browns' starting quarterback?
We'll find out the answer to that question during training camp. It's expected to be Colt McCoy
, but the second-year player will have to prove he deserves it. When Browns president Mike Holmgren was asked about the team's QB situation Tuesday, he didn't automatically point to McCoy as the starter.
"We have Seneca Wallace, too, and Jake Delhomme as well right now," Holmgren said at the NFL Spring Meeting. "But (McCoy) got his feet wet last year. I didn't necessarily want him to play that much last year, but we were injured, and so he had a chance to play. He showed us enough where he will go in, and we're hopeful that -- it'll be competitive -- but if he does what I think he can do, he'll probably be the guy, yeah."
Fantasy Analysis:
OK, so it's not McCoy's job yet, but it sounds like either he'll have to completely blow it, or Wallace/Delhomme will have to experience some sort of resurrection for McCoy not to be "the guy." He's certainly the leader in the clubhouse. Holmgren also praised McCoy for the leadership he has shown this offseason.
However, it remains to be seen if rookie wide receiver Greg Little
can catch on quickly, if relative veterans Mohamed Massaquoi
or Brian Robiskie can step up their level of play, and if McCoy can carry the offense when asked. All three of those questions -- and there are more with this offense -- don't have easy, quick answers. This passing offense, McCoy included, remains largely unattractive for fantasy purposes right now.
