Chargers coach: Antonio Gates' rehab going well

Antonio Gates @AntonioGates85 is healthy. That's a scary sentence for NFL defenses. Gates was limited by injuries on each foot last season -- one dealing with a toe and the other being plantar fasciitis. All of that pain caused him to miss six games last season. Yet, Gates still finished with 10 touchdowns, tied for the most among NFL tight ends. He also finished fourth at his position in receiving yards. Chargers head coach Norv Turner saw Gates during the two-day period in April when the lockout was lifted and said Gates looked good. He also looked forward to what Gates at full strength will mean for his offense this season. "He's going to be our lead guy (in 2011)," Turner said of Gates to the Chargers' official website. "It's a shame he got hurt a year ago because he was not only going to have his career-best year but maybe the best year ever by a tight end." Gates recorded 40 catches, 663 yards and nine scores in his first eight games last season before the injury bug bit him bad. He was on pace to break the single-season record for yards and touchdowns by a tight end. He ended up with 50 catches, 782 yards and 10 scores.

Fantasy Analysis:

Last I checked, Philip Rivers is still in San Diego. As long as he's around and Gates stays on the field, those two will continue to embarrass defenses. You don't need me to tell you, but Gates is the No. 1 tight end in fantasy.
