49ers' Michael Crabtree shows up to team workouts
I guess it's better late than never for Michael Crabtree
.
The San Francisco 49ers' top wide receiver has arrived in the Bay Area and, per a source close to Crabtree via the Sacramento Bee, he plans to start working out with quarterback Alex Smith and a small group of teammates in player-organized workouts soon. Some 49ers have been working out together, running routes and learning head coach Jim Harbaugh's offense since February. Meanwhile, Crabtree trained in the Dallas area.
Crabtree, the 10th overall pick from the 2009 draft, hasn't lived up to the expectations so far. Last season, he caught 55 passes for 741 yards and six touchdowns. He finished seven games with less than 40 receiving yards. However, it's worth noting that the Niners were far from stable at the QB position.
Fantasy Analysis:
By the way, Smith is a free agent, but he acknowledged last week that he will likely stay a 49er. Crabtree and Smith can use as much time as possible to build chemistry once again for a season. Those two have been off and on in games, but Crabtree is the best option out wide for Smith, and Smith will be given every chance to lead this team for another year. These two players need each other in order to be productive. Still, Smith is not very valuable in fantasy, and Crabtree is best drafted in fantasy as a WR3 given his inconsistent statistical outputs.
