Bengals owner Mike Brown reiterates he doesn't want to trade Carson Palmer
Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown has held firm on his stance to not trade quarterback Carson Palmer despite the veteran's public demands to be sent elsewhere. Brown restated those feelings for the media Monday at NFL's Spring Meeting.
"We don't plan to trade Carson," Brown said. "He's important to us. He's a very fine player, and we do want him to come back. If he chooses not to, he'd retire. And we would go with Andy Dalton
, the younger player we drafted, who's a good prospect.
"Ideally, we'd have both of them. That'd be the best way to go forward. If we don't have Carson, we'll go with Andy."
Brown is keeping his word. If Palmer keeps his word, he will retire instead of play the 2011 season in Cincinnati. Trading Palmer is impossible in the league's current lockout state.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Bengals are rebuilding. Brown may say he wants Palmer back as to not further alienate him. But I'm sure he would like to go with Dalton now and see how quickly he and rookie wide receiver A.J. Green can form a dangerous duo on NFL defenses. As it is, we'll see if Palmer doesn't break his promise. Either way, I'm staying pretty far away from any Bengals QB in fantasy. If Palmer reverses course and suits up as a Bengal, I don't want to mess with all of the headaches he will give me as he throws interception after interception. He's a No. 2 fantasy QB at best. I'd like to give Dalton some time to develop before buying into him. Unfortunately for Andy, it looks like he'll probably start in week one and have to learn on the job. The Ravens and Steelers are licking their chops.
