John Elway says Kyle Orton will open camp as Broncos' starter

Most people expect Tim Tebow @TimTebow to be the Denver Broncos' horse this year. We've been told to not forget about Brady Quinn @BQ9. But it will be Kyle Orton atop the QB depth chart when training camp opens, per John Elway. "Kyle is going to have a leg up because of the success he has had, but we want everybody to have a chance to compete for that job," said Elway, the Broncos' executive vice president of football operations. "When we go to camp, Kyle is going to be No. 1 on the depth chart when we go to camp. But Tebow, as well as Brady Quinn, are going to have an opportunity to compete for that job. "Bottom line is we have three guys who can play. Kyle has had good numbers, but we haven't won a lot of football games, that's the bottom line. That's a reflection of you as a quarterback whether you want it or not." Orton was statistically impressive last year, throwing for 3,653 yards and 20 touchdowns in 13 starts. He had a quarterback rating of 87.5, but the team won just three games with him under center. Tebow started the season's final three games, winning one of them.

Fantasy Analysis:

Of course, this will change as soon as the Broncos find the right price for Orton, who has been a popular subject of trade talks. Reports state the the Broncos will deal Orton for nothing less than a second-round pick. Whether they can find a buyer willing to pay such a price remains uncertain. If Orton stays in Denver, I think we'll have a very competitive QB battle between him and Tebow on our hands. Right now, I am more of a Tebow supporter. Orton was a borderline fantasy stud for a chunk of last season. He threw for at least 295 yards in each of the first five games and recorded six 300-yard efforts. He threw 20 TDs and just six interceptions in his first 11 games. But with John Fox now in as head coach, I think the Broncos will lean more on the running game, and you shouldn't expect the same high outputs from Broncos QBs.
