Dolphins' Charles Clay is unique commodity
Charles Clay
was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the sixth round -- No. 174 overall -- of this year's NFL draft out of Tulsa. In college, he lined up at tailback, fullback, tight end, H-back, wide receiver, wildcat quarterback and defensive end. Miami plans to put that versatility to work, especially on offense.
"We saw [Clay] as a tight end, we saw this guy in the backfield, we saw him in the slot," Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland said to FOX's Adam Caplan on Tuesday. "He has a very unique set of skills and that's kind of the way we plan to use him.
"He can run the ball, he can catch the ball, he can block, and so those are the things we're going to use him doing and we're excited to have him as well."
Ireland said how the Dolphins specifically include Clay in their offense will be left up to head coach Tony Sparano.
Fantasy Analysis:
Clay's presence can help an offensive coordinator become a little more more creative, but there's nothing too athletically special about him. He'll most likely be involved on third downs and long passing downs as a safety-valve receiver or blocker. He may also see the field on gimmick plays. But I don't think he will get enough playing time this season to become much of a fantasy factor.
