Rookie Delone Carter may be Colts' goal-line back

Fourth-round rookie running back Delone Carter @DeloneCarter says he is willing to fill any role the Indianapolis Colts need him in, including pass blocker. Head coach Jim Caldwell said that's a very important job in his offense, but he may have another job in mind for Carter, one that's more interesting to fantasy owners. Caldwell and Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian have indicated Carter could be their man down by the goal line. "He's a different style of back than we've had in some time here," Polian said of Carter to the Indianapolis Star. "He's much more of an inside slam-bang kind of runner than we're used to having and brings what we think is a much-needed skill set that we've been lacking." "He has a low center of gravity but a lot of power," Caldwell said of Carter to the Colts' official website. "He finishes his runs. He's a downhill back and a good back between the tackles ...." Carter scored 20 touchdowns in his last two seasons at Syracuse

Fantasy Analysis:

Carter, at 5-foot-9, 225 pounds, is certainly bigger than Joseph Addai and Donald Brown @Donaldb31. It also helps that he ended his collegiate career without a fumble in 242 carries. He could have some value this season, but that will depend upon a couple of factors. One, does Addai leave town as a free agent? And two, injuries to Addai and Brown. Feel free to stash him deep down your list of 2011 sleepers until further notice.
