Browns will try to manage Peyton Hillis' touches

The 2010 NFL season was Peyton Hillis @thepeytonhillis' best by far because of opportunity. He rushed 270 times and caught 61 passes. That total of 331 was more than three times the amount of touches he got in his first two seasons combined. After listening to Browns General Manager Tom Heckert on Wednesday, you shouldn't expect that type of workload to continue. He said the team overworked Hillis last season and needs to give him some more help in the backfield moving forward. "Obviously, we have Montario Hardesty @MoHard20, who's coming off an injury," Heckert said on Pro Football Talk Live. "Unfortunately, he got hurt and he couldn't take some of the carries away. That's my fault for not getting another back in here to help us take some carries away from Peyton. Peyton's a great football player and he can do it, but obviously in the long term we would rather not have him carry the ball that much, and we do need a rotation going in there."

Fantasy Analysis:

Hillis clearly wore down late in the season, running for just 107 total yards in the final three games. Heckert said Hardesty, a second-round pick last year, should be fully healthy when the season begins and will take some carries away from Hillis. Hardesty missed all of the 2010 season due to a torn ACL. Assuming free agent Mike Bell isn't a part of this backfield as well, Hardesty could be an interesting handcuff to Hillis, who is going to be a popular bust candidate in 2011 just because so many people don't believe he can do it again. And no, any resulting slump will have nothing to do with Hillis' mug appearing on the cover of Madden NFL '12.
