Titans don't want to put pressure on Jake Locker

When the Tennessee Titans took quarterback Jake Locker at No. 8 in the NFL Draft, most thought he would be the immediate replacement for Vince Young. But it sounds like the Titans don't want to go down that road. Titans General Manger Mike Reinfeldt said he would like a veteran QB to start in week one "We'd still like a guy that's been a seasoned guy that could step in and play," Reinfeldt said. "I don't think we want to put the pressure on Jake to have to do it. I think we want to be able to let him go at his own pace. I think (Jake) is going to be able to go faster than people think he can, but I think we need to have a veteran that we can throw in for a bunch of the season and be comfortable with him for winning games." Reinfeldt said that player may be acquired through a trade or free agency. The currently rostered Kerry Collins is another possibility.

Fantasy Analysis:

If the Titans carry this out, it's a good move. Locker is far from ready to be an NFL starter. However, we'll have to see who the Titans can gain at that position. If Collins gets the call, it's going to get ugly quick in Tennessee, and the calls for Locker to get into the game will grow. And I'm not sure that would be in his best long-term interests. I think he needs to sit back and learn for at least a year.
