What comes as a bit of a surprise, Georgia Tech safety Jerrard Tarrant has decided to skip his senior season and declared for the 2011 NFL Draft. Tarrant is a 6'1", 205 pound prospect who is athletic and can make plays in zone coverage. He also can return kicks. Tarrant missed the entire 2008 season after being charged with rape, ultimately the charges were dropped and he was reinstated to the team. In 26 career games, he accumulated five interceptions, three forced fumbles, two passes defended and 113 tackles. In his career, he only started 18 games. Tarrant joins his teammate -- offensive tackle Nick Claytor as Georgia Tech underclassmen -- to declare for the draft.

Fantasy Analysis:

This definitely comes as a surprise because Tarrant hasn't done a lot in his 18 career starts. He's not a bad player per se, he just wasn't on the radar for possible early declarations. After reading a few Georgia Tech message boards, it appears Tarrant would've had to compete for his position and the coaching staff let the players know they should move on if they were only concerned about their draft status. Tarrant is far from a big prospect, but this does go to show a problem with college football. Many of these young men feel they can do things their way in college, pad their stats, buck the system and get drafted. Georgia Tech may have shown this young man the door, in essence.
