Kevin Kolb wants to be traded if he's not starting for Eagles next season
Kevin Kolb
was the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback at the beginning of this season and, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Kolb would like to be traded if he's not in the same role at the start of next season.
"I love it here, as everybody knows," Kolb said Sunday after the Eagles' playoff loss to the Packers. "My family's settled in here. I would love to be starting here. But I want to be starting somewhere."
Kolb has one year remaining on his current contract. When asked if he could settle with being a backup in 2011, Kolb said "I can't answer that question."
Fantasy Analysis:
There are a number of obstacles standing in Kolb's way, the biggest of which being Michael Vick
. He's going to enter free agency, but the Eagles obviously want him back and will probably get that done by using the franchise tag if one is available in the new college bargaining agreement.
The lack of a CBA could void Kolb's demands. A trade can't be swung with any team until a new agreement is in place. No one knows when or if that will happen before next season.
The Eagles see Kolb as a very valuable backup, considering how fragile Vick can be. Kolb started three games earlier this season while Vick was out due to broken rib cartilage. Then Vick battled more injuries down the stretch of the regular season and in the playoffs. And because Kolb is such a valuable insurance policy for Philly, The Eagles' reported asking price for him -- at least one and probably two first-round picks -- is too rich for many teams.
