Seahawks agree on 3-year deal with Mike Williams
Seattle Seahawks have turned their cheap one-year gamble on wide receiver Mike Williams
into a more expensive three-year commitment. The two sides finished the specifics on a new contract Sunday and announced it Monday.
"I'm happy to be a part of the beginning. I can't really put into words," Williams said. "I'm very blessed. ... Obviously there was some excitement about free agency and the possibilities but I knew I wanted to be here and if we could get close to where I wanted to be I was going to make it happen."
Williams, who turns 27 on Tuesday, was a massive draft bust with the Detroit Lions in 2005 and 2006 after they spent the No. 10 pick on the USC product. He was out of the league in 2008 and 2009 before landing with Seattle in April for a base salary of $545,000. Financial terms of his new deal weren't immediately known. He caught 65 passes for 751 yards and two touchdowns this season.
Fantasy Analysis:
Williams turned into the Seahawks' No. 1 wideout and a fairly valuable fantasy commodity, especially in PPR leagues. He had five games with at least six catches and four with at least 80 yards. He's a possession receiver whose touchdown totals will be limited, but Matt Hasselbeck
really likes him. If he returns next season as Seattle's QB, Williams is an easy top-30 WR in standard leagues. There will be a downgrade if Charlie Whitehurst is under center; those two didn't seem to have much of a connection.
