Browns fire coach Mangini

The Cleveland Browns have decided to fire head coach Eric Mangini after posting a 5-11 record for the second time in his two years with the organization. Browns president Mike Holmgren considered firing Mangini last season so it comes as little surprise that Mangini would not be retained for the 2011 season. "I had a chance to meet with Eric this morning, and we had a very good -- but tough -- conversation," Holmgren said. "You know, it's difficult, but I want to thank him and his family publicly for everything they've done. They're wonderful people and I wish them nothing but the best." Holmgren is responsible to find a new coach despite the rumors that he is a candidate to coach the team. According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, a source told him Holmgren is not likely to coach.

Fantasy Analysis:

It's tough to compete in the AFC North. Pittsburgh and Baltimore have been running the show for years now. The Browns haven't made the playoffs since 2002 when the team went 9-7 under then-head coach Butch Davis. Cleveland needs to find someone who can not only coach up quarterback Colt McCoy @ColtMcCoy, but also get the team back on track in terms of personnel. Some pieces are already in place, like McCoy, running back Peyton Hillis @thepeytonhillis and offensive tackle Joe Thomas, but there are a few soft spots on defense. The Browns did show flashes this season so a quick turnaround isn't out of the question.
