Who's in and who's out of the early games in week 17
If you're playing for a championship today, I've got two things to say: Good luck and why? There are a number of big names who are inactive due to injury, but some others are just taking this day off to rest before the playoffs. That list includes the Jets' LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene, even though Mark Sanchez is in the starting lineup. Tom Brady is active, but the Patriots' Wes Welker and Deion Branch are out. And look at all of these other players who are not going to play in today's early games: Maurice Jones-Drew, David Garrard, Hakeem Nicks, Chad Ochocinco, Aaron Hernandez, Carolina's Steve Smith, Marques Colston
, Pierre Thomas
, Sidney Rice, Brett Favre -- awwww! -- and Darren McFadden
.
It's also worth noting the players who are banged up but still suiting up today. That list includes Peyton Hillis, Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, Jonathan Stewart Knowshon Moreno and Jahvid Best. Also, all of the Ravens' regulars are active.
Happy new year!
Fantasy Analysis:
Dealing with the inactives: Joe McKnight will step in for the Jets and presumably get a lot of touches against the Bills. He's a shifty back with good receiving skills. He is worth a plug-and-play today because the matchup and opportunity are very promising. Brandon Tate and Julian Edelman will get more looks for the Patriots. They are OK WR3 options. Rashad Jennings and Trent Edwards are expected to start for the Jaguars in a late game. I like Jennings as a high-end flex. I guess you can use Edwards in two-QB leagues; he is facing the Texans' pass defense after all. Derek Hagan will start alongside Mario Manningham against the Redskins with Nicks out. You want to start only Manningham. Jerome Simpson will start once again in Ochocinco's spot. After last week's two-touchdown game, I think he's a pretty nice WR3 at the Ravens. Stay far away from anything in the Panthers' passing game. Robert Meachem, coming off a season-high 10 catches on Monday night, gets a bump up for the Saints. He's a WR2. Chris Ivory will start in place of Thomas. Even though he's missed the past two games with a hamstring strain, Ivory is relatively healthy and a high-end flex play versus the Bucs. No Brett Favre means another round of Joe Webb. He's a QB2 with lots of upside versus Detroit. Percy Harvin remains the only Minnesota WR to care about. Michael Bush should get a lot of carries against the Chiefs with McFadden out. He's a nice RB2.
