Carolina will not renew John Fox's contract

The Carolina Panthers have formally announced that head coach John Fox and his coaching staff will not have their contracts renewed at the end of this season. Fox has been Carolina's head coach since the 2002 season. In 2003, they went 11-5 and lost in the Super Bowl to the New England Patriots. Fox has an overall record of 73-70 with one game left to play this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons. This 2010 season marks the worst season for Fox with Carolina currently sitting at 2-13. The Panthers are already guaranteed the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Analysis:

For those who do not just live in the now, this does mark the end of an era for Carolina. Fox is only the third coach Carolina has had in their history (preceeded by George Seifert from '99 to '01 and Dom Capers from '95 to '98). Fox led Carolina to their best seasons even if they only made the playoffs three times in his nine-year tenure. Fox finishes with a 5-3 record in the playoffs. This year Carolina has had the league's worst offense. With the departure of quarterback Jake Delhomme, the team attempted to make due with Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how Carolina rebuilds their team, especially at the quarterback position.
