Carolina Panthers earn No. 1 pick

The Carolina Panthers are on the clock with the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Carolina, currently 2-13, has secured the worst record in football regardless of the outcome of their Week 17 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Carolina lost on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-3. Add that loss with wins by Denver and Cincinnati, who are both now 4-11 and Carolina is now ensured to have the worst record in the NFL. The months of speculation, prognostication and educated guesses will begin, especally after the Super Bowl ends.

Fantasy Analysis:

Carolina deserves it. Their two wins came against NFC West teams, which says a lot about how bad that division has been this year. Carolina drafted two quarterbacks last year, Jimmy Clausen @JimmyClausen and Tony Pike, but both players have played miserably this season. Clausen has thrown two touchdowns and eight interceptions. On Thursday, Carolina's offense only put together 119 yards, the second-fewest output in team history. Head coach John Fox will likely coach his final game next week. Owner Jerry Richardson has refused to give him a contract extension. Unfortunately for Carolina, New England has the rights to their second-round pick after Carolina gave the Pats their 2011 second rounder for a third rounder in 2010. The Pats have three picks in the first 33 picks of the draft (first round pick from Oakland (Richard Seymour), their own first round selection, and Carolina's second round pick.)
