Seahawks sticking with Matt Hasselbeck
Despite being booed off the field and benched Sunday, Matt Hasselbeck
is still the quarterback who will try to get the Seattle Seahawks to the playoffs. "We're going with Matt," head coach Pete Carroll said Monday. "Matt's been our quarterback, he's given us a chance all throughout, the best chance to finish off right and I'm excited in that sense he's going to pull this thing together." Hasselbeck was replaced in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to Atlanta after committing three turnovers, including one in his own end zone for a Falcons touchdown. "Looking back, I seem to do stupid things when we're losing," Hasselbeck said. "When we're down by two touchdowns or more, that's where I have to be way smarter. That's where I've really failed recently. That's on me. I know better." Charlie Whitehurst finished the game, but Carroll made it clear that Hasselbeck will start for the rest of the season, barring injury. At 6-8, the Seahawks are tied for the NFC West lead. They will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
Fantasy Analysis:
Hasselbeck has committed eight turnovers in the past three games, but I guess he gives Seattle a better shot than Whitehurst. His quarterback rating this year is 49.2, so while no one will confuse Hasselbeck with Johnny Unitas, Whitehurst isn't exactly Earl Morrall. Wide receiver Mike Williams
remains a solid PPR option and maybe a WR3 in standard leagues with Hasselbeck starting. With Aqib Talib out, he could very well find some room to produce against Tampa's secondary. And you know he'll see a ton of targets. But Williams is the only person to consider in fantasy from the Seahawks' passing game.
