Mum's the word regarding Lions' starting QB in week 16
You'll just have to wait to find out if Drew Stanton
or Shaun Hill will be behind center when the Detroit Lions face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Head coach Jim Schwartz said Monday he's not ready to make a decision and probably won't make one until shortly before kickoff.
"You're not going to paint me into a corner on who the starter's going to be or what the criteria's going to be," Schwartz said to the media. "We'll make the best decision for the football team and probably won't announce it until maybe Sunday."
Drew Stanton has a third-degree separation of his left, non-throwing shoulder. He suffered it during the second quarter of Sunday's win at Tampa Bay. He took a pain-killing injection at halftime and finished the game. Shaun Hill is coming off a broken right index finger, but was healthy enough to be Detroit's No. 2 quarterback against the Bucs.
Matthew Stafford isn't expected to return this week. He suffered an injury similar to Stanton's, a third-degree should separation, but to his right, throwing shoulder Nov. 7.
Fantasy Analysis:
At this point, it doesn't really matter who starts for the Lions; you just want to make sure that guy can get the ball to Calvin Johnson. Both Stanton and Hill have shown an ability to do that this season. So while you want no part of Detroit's quarterback situation during your championship week against the Dolphins' sixth-ranked pass defense, Johnson remains a must-start, no matter whom Schwartz anoints.
