Mike Singletary knows whom the 49ers' starting QB is, he's just not telling
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has company in the latest round of "Who can keep a quarterback secret?" San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary said Tuesday he's also going to wait to announce whether Troy Smith or Alex Smith is his starter for week 16. Maybe the only difference between him and Schwartz is that Singletary said he's already made a decision and has informed that quarterback; he's just not telling anyone on the outside right now. Singletary said Troy and Alex will get "the appropriate amount of reps" with the first-team offense during practice and didn't rule out the possibility of both playing Sunday against the St. Louis Rams. It's a must-win for the Niners, who sit just one game behind the division-leading Rams and Seahawks, despite a 5-9 record.
Fantasy Analysis:
Fantasy-wise, you don't care. Or at least you shouldn't unless you are extraordinarily desperate for a QB2. Both Smiths have been OK at times, but brutal otherwise. Michael Crabtree
