Redskins bench McNabb, Grossman will start
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan announced Friday that quarterback Rex Grossman will start Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys and for the remainder of the season. Quarterback Donovan McNabb
will therefore sit for the remainder of the season. Also, quarterback John Beck will operate as the team's backup during these final three games. "There's nothing (McNabb) could do in the three games that would influence me with what he's done over the first 13 games," Shanahan said. "I have to do what's in the best interest of the organization. I also told (McNabb) I could not guarantee him he would be back next season," said Shanahan. The Washington Redskins have been eliminated from possible playoff contention.
Fantasy Analysis:
In doing this, the Redskins definitely need to evaluate whether they need to draft a quarterback next season and rebuild. Considering their performances this season, a new quarterback is just one of their problems. The acquisition of McNabb was arrogant to begin with. It suggested that ownership and management felt they were one good quarterback away from the playoffs. But why would the Philadelphia Eagles trade away a player who could help a team within their division. Regardless of what happens here, McNabb should retire. His time has come and gone.
