Antonio Gates, Malcom Floyd inactive for Chargers tonight
To those of you hoping for a big outing tonight from Vincent Jackson
, the table has been set pretty nicely. San Diego will be without Antonio Gates
and Malcom Floyd against the San Francisco 49ers, making Jackson the No. 1 wideout for Philip Rivers.
Gates has a torn plantar fascia and has tried to tough it out for weeks. But this will mark his second consecutive missed game. Floyd has been bothered by a hamstring issue since the middle of October. He caught two touchdowns last week, but apparently re-aggravated the injury in the process. According to NFL.com's Kara Henderson, Floyd tried to warm up for this game, but the muscle just wouldn't loosen. Jackson and Legedu Naanee are expected to be the Chargers' starting wide receivers. Randy McMichael
will fill in for Gates once again.
Fantasy Analysis:
Jackson caught just two passes last week, but that was with Floyd involved. Tonight, Rivers has almost no choice; he'll have to target Jackson often, making him an easy top-20 fantasy WR for week 15. The Niners have a generous secondary and V-Jax should be able to take advantage. You should want to shy away from McMichael, however. He's done nothing since his fluke two-touchdown game back in week nine. Plus, the Niners haven't allowed more than four fantasy points to any tight end in their previous eight games.
