Vikings' starting quarterback: Patrick Ramsey?
With Brett Favre's throwing hand the same color as his home jersey and with Tarvaris Jackson
unlikely to play this week, the Minnesota Vikings needed some depth at QB. On Wednesday, they signed Patrick Ramsey. He is initially expected to backup third-stringer Joe Webb
, but head coach Leslie Frazier said Tuesday that he might bring in a veteran to start Monday night versus the Chicago Bears. If that person is Ramsey remains to be seen. Ramsey, a first-round pick from 2002, hasn't played in a game since the 2008 season. His last start came with the Denver Broncos in 2007.
Fantasy Analysis:
So this is what it's come to for the Vikings. All those lofty preseason expectations have transformed into this: No playoffs, no Favre, no stadium, but at least they've got Patrick Ramsey. If Favre can't play and if Ramsey can grasp the offense quick enough, I think he will start. As I said earlier today, Webb is not a quarterback at this level; he's an athlete. It's not like Ramsey gives Minnesota a much better shot to win, but at least he's been OK at times, even if those times did occur in 2003. This game will be played outdoors in sub-zero weather with pretty steady winds. With Ramsey or Webb leading the offense, Adrian Peterson
is the only viable Viking for fantasy leaguers this week.
